Kultur 8

The culture articles today were very interesting and amusing. I find it funny and amusing that Germans are petrified of drafts, but suffer through bronchitis and circulatory collapse. The Germans have some weird priorities according to me. It would irritate me to suffer through the stuffy air of a rail car or an automobile without cracking a window eventually. It is very contradictory that Germans walk outdside and bike to work and the grocery store, but are terrified of moving air. Do they stay inside if it is a windy day? I just find it really odd.

The whole sauna article is not much different than a lockerroom mentality. Playing high school hockey, I am used to the lockerroom scene. It would not bother me too much about the whole sauna thing. Personally, I think saunas are very nice and relaxing. We actually had one for our hockey team in high school. It is really nice to go into a sauna after working hard and just chill out and relax for a while.

I completely understand why Germans take a long time to finish their studies. I imagine that the mandatory military service is about two years long. The economy is a mess and they pass less taxes, pay less on public transportation and health care. I would definitely do it if I had the chance. They are also at an advantage to get a job while they are students. There is no incentive for the students to leave their studies and enter the professional world.
