Kultur 8

As usual, I thought all the articles were very interesting. This week I was particularly interested by the ones about "Mysterious German Illnesses" and "Draftophobia." This reminded me a lot of things that we discussed in one my Medical Anthropology classes. It's fascinating that perceptions of illness/disease differ so drastically cross-culturally. I can't imagine how frustrating (and sweltering!) it must be for foreigners forced to sit inside buildings or cars with no AC in the summer time. Their obsession with saunas, however, doesn't sound so bad! I think it would take a little getting used to, but it seems like a good time.

As for the eternal students - that sounds like exactly the kind of life I want! If I could stay in school for 10 more years and postpone that terrifying reality of being a "real person," that would be ideal. Of course, being 30 and never having had any real-world experience is also a little scary. But perhaps I will just move to Germany and start University over there and do that for the next decade or so. I would still be a few years younger than the average first semester student, so it seems like it could work!
