AMD 4 - Das Leben der Anderen

For my AMD, I decided to watch The Lives of Others ("Das Leben der Anderen"). The movie is set in East Berlin, before the fall of the Berlin Wall, and follows members of the Stasi, East Germany's secret police, as they spy on famous writer Georg Dreyman and his actress girlfriend Christa-Maria Sieland. The story focuses both on the political drama of the era as well as the intense personal drama faced by those involved (which is quite a lot of drama!) - including the eventual disillusionment of a Stasi officer as he uncovers his superior's true motivation for the spying. Overall, it's a very very good movie - great acting and great plot, and it's incredible to think that things like this took place in the not-so-distant past.
