I would find it hard to live somewhere with stores that weren't open on Sundays or at night. That's pretty much the only time I ever do any shopping. I would imagine it would be hard for students - who are in class all day - to get things done! Although I suppose it would be healthier if I weren't able to go buy a pint of Ben & Jerry's at 2 a.m. whenever I wanted...
Father's Day in Germany sounds AWESOME. Although, it would be somewhat uncomfortable to see everyone's fathers being that drunk. But still, it sounds like a good time. Being a dad is stressful - why not let off some steam and get trashed to celebrate? Seems reasonable enough to me. I can imagine that there are some problems with it though, as with every situation that involves high levels of alcohol intake. On the whole though, it seems like fun.
My favorite article was the one about the Christmas markets, since I used to go to the Christmas market in Bremen every year when we visited. It truly was one of the most beautiful, magical, holiday-cheer-ical places I've ever been to. Filled with delicious food and so many vendors selling amazing things, (plus a ferris wheel and some rides too!), it was always a great time.
After browsing through the travel blogs, I read one about Basel that talked about how you can drink out of the public fountains! I though that was pretty cool, especially since I've been known to swim in a few public fountains in various cities - so that seemed a little gross at first.
