Hallo,
From reading these articles, finde ich die Deustcher verrückt. As if I already didn't. :D
I seriously doubt that the draft is a main cause of many diseases. I love the wind in my face, but I guess I have to respect the Germans and their "draftophobia."
I wonder if most of the saunas in hotels are made from German companies? I love saunas, but I can't always take the heat. That's why I prefer hottubs. However, if I am sick, I would love to have a sauna around because I hear sweating helps your get better.
Sometimes I wish I could go to a German university. It doesn't cost much to go per semester, the food is great, the age diversity is cool, and you get discounts on a lot of things. I would probably get used to classes their because our lectures are a lot like Germans, so getting familiar would be easy, although I feel that I need to know how to speak German really really well.
Auf Wiedersehen!
Jonathon Parker

Kultur 2 - Kapitel 8
Again I find my self very split in the agreement with the Germans in the Kultur texts that we read.
Like the Germans, I completely understand the phenomenon of "Draftophobia." I love being outdoors, I love fresh air, and I love a good breeze, but never when I'm indoors. Why? I'm not really sure. But when I'm indoors, I want to be indoors, so I do not want any cold air blowing over me (especially if I'm sitting). I have also been known to be somewhat of a hypochondriac at times, so if I were familiar with common (and somewhat extreme) illnesses, I would probably come down with circulatory collapse every once and a while too.
I'm probably less inclined to be comfortable sitting naked and sweating next to coworkers, however. I also would not want to be in College for 10 years either (although, once I'm a real person, and out of college, I'm certainly planning on continuing my education with the occasional college course).

Additionally, "die Vorlesung" also seems very similar to many University courses here in the US, though, I much prefer some interaction with the professor to simply listening to a lecture. The deutsche Universitätssystem is also very similar it seems to the US; enrollment numbers here are also limited and different universities offer different majors. Unlike in the US though, I would certainly welcome government subsidized cafeterias and dorms!

Kultur 2, Yuwei Li
I am interested in the article Germany's Aged Students. Before reading this article, I already known in German universities, you can see a lot of aged students. But I was told the reason of this is because the study environment in Germany is much more strict than other countries so it makes students easy to fail the classes and become hard to graduate.
But this article changed my mind. The fact is not students can't graduate, it is they don't want to graduate. Because students can have a lot of benefits from the country such as part time jobs, internships, and discount tickets for museums, transportation. It's much easier to be a student than step to the society.
However, I don't think it is good for someone to live on a dole because people can't stay in university forever. They have to graduate some time. After graduation, it is not very easy to find a job because you have to compete with people who are younger and more energetic than you. Even though you might have already done some internships in university, it doesn't mean you have much more working experience than people who graduated earlier and found a job to do for years while you are still in university.
So I think instead of staying in the university and live on a dole, it's better to graduate early and be a part of the society.

Willkommen!!
Welcome to our class blog!
We will be using this blog throughout the semester for two kinds of assignments:
1. Once per chapter, the homework plan will direct you to post a response to the culture readings for the chapter on the blog.
2. Roughly every other week, the homework plan will direct you to post here for your Abenteuer mit Deutsch (AMD) assignment. First you do a fun activity that involves German, then you post about it. You should spend an hour total on this (maybe 45-55 minutes doing something, 5-15 minutes posting about it). See Was ist ein AMD, AMD Ideen and Beispiele for ideas. This should get you excited about the kinds of things you can do!
Whenever you post something, please include your name and the name of the assignment (e.g. AMD2, Kultur5) as labels. See "Blog: How To" for more details!
