AMD 2

For my sencond AMD, I looked up German proverbs to see if they are similar to those that we say in English. Some of the proverbs were the same, and easily understood in their German form. Here are some of the ones I recognized right away:
"Zeit ist Geld."="Time is money."
“Ich bin nicht von gestern”=“I wasn’t born yesterday.”

The ones I liked the most were proverbs that we have equivalents of in the English language, but when literally translated from German to English, they sound really ridiculous. For example:
“Aus einer Mücke einen Elefanten machen” which is the equivalent of “To make a mountain out of a molehill”. (the literal translation is “To make an elephant out of a mosquito”).

I also found this to be interesting:
"Wem der Schuh passt, der zieht ihn sich an"="If the shoe fits, wear it." (it uses a reflexive verb which means it connects to what we're currently learning.) I think that it's interesting to see how the same expressions are used throughout different cultures.

AMD 1

For my first AMD I decided to watch the rest of the film Bella Martha. Having seen the English remake, No Reservations, I found the film really interesting. It was difficult trying to understand what each character was saying, since they speak so fluently. However, I rewound and listened through the parts I found difficult to understand for a second time. I found that this really helped me adjust to the pace of the speaking. When words that I didn't understand were used, I did my best to make out their meaning by putting it into context, but even so I sometimes found myself looking at the subtitles. Overall, I really enjoyed this activity and I hope in the future I will be able to do something similar without having such obstacles!
