AMD 6

For this AMD, I physically talked with a German at my place of work, as I was helping him try on shoes. I'll try to recreate the event as best as I can remember. I really enjoyed talking to him about Germany.
Ich sagte, "Wie geht's?"
"Es geht's mir gut!"
"Wie kann ich ihnen helfen?"
"Ich möchte ein Laufshuh* kaufen." *Running Shoe
"Oh, Ja! Ich habe viele Laufshuhe!"
"Wie vielen Meilen Laufen Sie?"
"Ich laufe funf oder sechs Meilen eintag."
"Also, haben Sie Probleme mit Ihren Beinen?"
"Ja, mein links Bein hat viele Probleme. Konnen Sie helfen mich?"
"Ja, Ich denke ich kenne den besten Schuh für Sie."
"Was ist...?"
"Asics Gel-2150. Es ist ein gute schuh fur Beine Probleme."
"Ja, Ich werde versuchen es!"
"Was ist deine Schuhgröße?"
"Zehn."
I went in back to grab the shoes, feeling excited that I was able to sell a shoe in German. For the rest of the conversation, I decided to talk in English in order to understand completely what he was saying.
"Here are your shoes."
"Thank you"
"So, where are you from in Germany?"
"I'm from Berlin."
"Oh yeah, I want to visit Berlin either this summer or next summer. What is it like?"
"Well its very modern. Lots of things to do and see. I would suggest staying in Berlin if you want to really enjoy Germany. A lot of the cities with night-life are in the North, but the South is cool as well. There are castles and the forests and mountains. Definitely something you don't want to miss. Was there any place you really wanted to go?"
"I definitely want to visit Heidelberg, I think that would be pretty cool."
"It's a big tourist attraction. Just don't stay there, too busy and no night-life. Great to visit though. Like I said, if you want night-life, stay in the North, or in Berlin."
"Great! How are your shoes?"
"They fit great! My left leg feels like it is getting good support."
"And I'm sure buying shoes here is much cheaper in Germany?"
"Oh yes, much cheaper. Almost half the price. And gas... gas is around the equivalent of 8 dollars a gallon."
My manager, Dan, laughs and says, "And we are freaking out over 4 dollars a gallon."
The German, "Haha yeah! Well, you certainly gave me the right pair of shoes, I'll take them!"
Me, "Alright. Then have a nice day and enjoy your stay in America!"
"Thank you!"

AMD 1

For my activity, i watched an episode of South Park in German ( once again!!!) It was very exciting! The episode was about World of Warcraft, and the boys decide that they want to become the best at the game. So they sit in their basement for like a year, and they turn into fat kids with no life. They aren't even able to get out of their chairs! They beat the champion of warcraft, and feel great, but unfortunately their laziness caught up to them. I suggest that if you enjoy watching south park, visit southparkstudios.com and watch an episode in german. I sure enjoyed it!

Kapitel 7 Kultur- Texte

I can totally relate to the first article about the super-save supermarket. I have two aldis in my hometown, and shopping at those stores is no pleasant experience, but the amount of money that I save is unbelievable. The lights are unbelievably bright, just as the article described, your eyes almost hurt from the intensity of the light. There are tons of rip- off brands. I liked the text's example... Red Horse. The store has more non brands than actual brands. The idea of bringing your own bags to the store is also unbelievable, i'm sure its all a part of reusing our resources.
If i decide to drive when I visit Germany, I am definitely going to rent either a BMW or Mercedes... maybe even an Italian racer, like a Ferrari or Lamborghini. I want to take advantage of being able to maximize the opportunities of driving on the autobahn. The farthest left lane will be mine to enjoy!
No German is pushing me out of the way in a line! Little do they know, but I own my own pair of Adidas Samba trainers, so I will be prepared for the hardest competitor. I will make sure to bring my hockey pads, maybe even my hockey stick to ward off line cutters. I will also be sure to eat lots of garlic, I'm sure the line jumpers will enjoy that!
